Talk about making the most out of a little.  There’s no big mountain skiing east of the Mississippi but there’s total big dedication and big heart in “Work It Out”.   And while the Meathead Films crew might not have access to helicopters either, there’s no shortage of great shots.   Whether its back country skiing in Quebec’s Chi Chocs or kickers next to the Baltimore shipyards, Geoff McDonald and Chris James’s cameras zoom, glide and pivot to get a hard-drive full of sweet footage.  But it’s the urban skiing footage that shines brightest.  Abandoned buildings, rails, backyard jumps, constructions sites, back-alley loading ramps, building roofs, hell, even the monuments in Washington DC.   These East Coasters dig deep into every nook and cranny and shred the bejezus out of it all.  There’s no fooling around with extended life-style shots – just fast-paced cuts and plenty of skiing and yet that still allows the personalities of the skiers like Shea Flynn and Dan Marion to come across.  The Jane Fonda aerobics inspired opening is classic but the killer sequence is the bump skiing underscored with an 80s influenced electro track with Erik Olson and Randy “The Hammer” Grasso hitting it in a wardrobe that came straight out of “Blizzard of Aahhhs”.  In fact with those side-burns and his penchant for moguls, The Hammer comes across like a Glen Plake for a new generation.  Can you say “awesome”?    By Mark “The Attorney General” Quail
